Contemporary Artworks by Jane Harlington

Jane works in mixed media, some of her original contemporary artworks are available for sale and displayed here in Jane’s online gallery. There are also signed limited edition prints available for a selection of the artworks.

Jane is based at the Blue Pig Studio in Carloway, Isle of Lewis in the Western Isles. At the Blue Pig Studio, Jane has a gallery displaying both her own contemporary artworks and those of other local artists. Here in her own studio Jane also teaches art classes enabling others to create their own artworks.

The collections of Jane’s contemporary artworks displayed in this online Gallery are: “A Place at the Edge”, “A sense of Place”, “A Port of Call”, (Jane’s solo exhibition at An Lanntair in Stornoway) and includes her latest collection of artworks up to September 2006.

Portfolio

Landmarks is a collection of memories and echoes, gathered from across the country, from Cornwall to Edinburgh, Lewis to London. They are semi abstracted, layered images, exploring light, colour and atmosphere. Buildings and structures become simple silhouettes, animated by openings and edges.Shadows and sunshine, boulders and pebbles, pavements and walls all have a part to play. Nothing stands still, things dissolve into a mosaic of overlapping fragments.

The response to these places , though, is more than a journey through landscape, it echoes landmark events of circumstance and history. As a result these pictures are a personal exploration, thinking in paint if you like.

As one commenter described it,they are about feelings not rationality, about imagination not commonsense.

Jane and Gareths work is substantially different. Jane works in a wide variety of media using colour as an emotional response. Gareth works in a far more understated way. It’s strange that the exhibition should form such a happy marriage and that two such different journeys should end up on the same island.

The Morven Gallery is in Upper Barvas, Isle of Lewis

There is always a range of Jane’s work in the Blue Pig Gallery.

Jane also has some of her artwork at the Seallam Heritage Centre as part of an ongoing exhibition about St Kilda

During September/October 2009 Jane has an exhibition at An Lanntair Arts Centre in Stornoway

News

I am hoping to revamp the studio and gallery before the onset of the main season, a lick of paint and a good sort out etc. There seems to be a lot to do. I’m off to India at the end of the month, a mixture of work and play.
The trip to Germany has resulted in a series of small painted wooden blocks of the markets… a sort of desk top interactive thing, multi sided, interchangeable.

These pics are drawn from the harbour on 27th December, a new work in progress:
